Arata Isozaki, distinguished Japanese architect, city planner and theorist, has been selected as the 2019 Laureate of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, the award that is known internationally as architecture’s highest honor.

Lauded as a visionary amongst his international contemporaries, Isozaki’s forward-thinking approach, deep commitment to the “art of space,” and transnational methodology have been evidenced since the 1960s. The prolific architect has been credited with facilitating dialogue between East and West, reinterpreting global influences within architecture, and supporting the development of younger generations in the field. His precision and dexterity are demonstrated through his mastery of an intercontinental range of building techniques, interpretation of site and context, and intentionality of details.

VITTORIO GARATTI, ROBERTO GOTTARDI, RICARDO PORRO

3D-printed Gaia house is made from biodegradable materials

Italian 3D-printing technology developer WASP, built the house to showcase the abilities of Crane Wasp, a modular 3D-printer that can create homes in a variety of formats and sizes. Called Gaia, the 30-square-metre house has a 3D-printed outer shell and internal timber beams holding a timber roof. It was printed on site in Massa Lombardo, a town in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, in October 2018.

The house was printed using a natural mud mixture made from soil taken from the surrounding site, as well as waste materials from rice production such as chopped straw and rice husks. The company also claims the final product is biodegradable. "If the building isn't maintained, it will turn back into soil," The house was built with the company's Crane Wasp printer, a modular 3D-printer made to print homes

in his latest work, the architect martín marro has taken an old gas oil tank and converted it into a capsule for living in argentina. the project, ‘bunker’, relates to an investigation that marro began in 2012 to reconstruct the memory of his family home, which had previously been a typical service station of 1940. the resulting design uses an existing form to create the ultimate compact dwelling accommodation.

from the outside, the yellow colored tank appears unchanged, however, once inside, the cylindrical form opens up and is home to a sleeping space. given it’s previous incarnation as an oil tan, the ‘bunker’ cabin can be moved to various locations
